Engine testing

The chair has a total of 10 engine test benches for fired engine testing. These cover a power and torque range from 250 kW / 400 Nm to 1200 kW / 7500 Nm.

Each test bench has a supply of petrol and diesel fuel as well as an optional CNG connection.

In addition to recording temperatures, flow rates and static pressures at each test bench, numerous other measured variables can be recorded. These include, for example, the measurement of exhaust gas emissions, as well as the precise measurement of the angle of rotation of the in-cylinder pressure. The entirety of this data enables simulative post-processing of the measurements in order to be able to determine variables that cannot be measured directly, such as the content of residual exhaust gas in the combustion chamber after completion of the charge exchange.
